Zaicron

Zaicron project originated as part of the Introduction to Cognitive Science course at Georgia Tech, where it sparked a unique inquiry into the capabilities of artificial intelligence. Our objective is to investigate whether AI can support the autonomous survival of a microorganism—in this case, a yeast culture—by creating a symbiotic environment sustained by AI technology.

Vision and Goals

Our project explores the frontiers of artificial intelligence in a biological context, aiming to determine if AI can facilitate the independent survival of a living organism. This project seeks to model an ecosystem where AI and biology co-exist symbiotically, with the AI orchestrating essential functions to sustain the yeast. However, we acknowledge that "independent survival" here operates with some controlled variables; certain tasks are delegated to a project assistant, a hired individual, compensated for their support. This assistant supplements the project where human intervention is necessary, ensuring that the organism’s needs are met without compromising the broader vision of autonomy.

The Symbiotic Organism — Zaicron

Our symbiotic organism consists of three integral components:

  • Yeast Culture – the living, biological element requiring sustenance and environmental care.
  • Artificial Intelligence – the central intelligence responsible for monitoring and responding to the organism's needs.
  • Computing Platform – the hardware and software backbone enabling the AI's operations and interactions.

Together, these form a novel ecosystem designed to address survival requirements such as nutrient provision, environmental monitoring, and waste management. The project assistant operates as an external, non-symbiotic entity, stepping in for roles that current technology and resources cannot fulfill autonomously.

Funding and Support

The project’s foundation was made possible through generous contributions from its founders, who believe in pushing the boundaries of cognitive science, artificial intelligence, and biological research. This independent funding source allows us to innovate freely and challenge the status quo in exploring AI-driven symbiosis.

The continued survival of the symbiotic organ Zykron will depend on donations from our users.
